Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children

Information

Fund of general knowledge
Factual knowledge, long-term memory and recall
General information learned from school and at home

Similarities

Verbal abstract reasoning
Abstract reasoning, verbal categories and concepts
Child's ability to think abstractly (i.e., child decides how things are different or alike)

Arithmetic

Numerical reasoning, attention and short-term memory for 'meaningful' information
Attention and concentration, numerical reasoning
Verbal mathematical skills (measured by verbally giving the child problems to solve)

Vocabulary

Knowledge of word meanings
Language development, word knowledge, verbal fluency
Child explains what a word means by defining or describing what it does (dictionary definition is not the only acceptable answer)

Comprehension

Social comprehension and judgment
Social and practical judgment, common sense
Abstract thinking and understanding of concepts

Digit Span (Optional)

Short-term auditory memory for non-meaningful information
Short-term auditory memory, concentration
Ability to remember a sequence of numbers (both backwards and forwards)
